Taking a JEE mock test is only half the preparation. The real improvement starts when you analyse the test properly.
Many students check their score and immediately move to the next mock. By doing this, they miss the most valuable part of practice.
A good mock test can show:
- Which concepts you don’t know
- Which questions you should have attempted
- Where you wasted time
- Whether your problem is knowledge, accuracy, speed or question selection
Why did I lose marks, and what should I change before the next mock?
After every mock, follow these steps:
- Check score, attempts and accuracy
- Analyse every wrong answer and find the real reason
- Review unattempted questions
- Identify time-consuming questions
- Analyse correct but slow attempts
- Check Physics, Chemistry and Maths separately
- Find weak chapters
- Convert the findings into a clear action plan
Two students can score the same marks for completely different reasons.
- One may have high accuracy but low attempts

3. Analyse Unattempted Questions
Unattempted does not always mean “I don’t know the topic.”There are three cases:
- You didn’t know the concept → preparation gap
- You knew it but didn’t reach the question → time management issue
- You skipped a solvable question → question selection issue
4. Find Recoverable Marks
Ask yourself:
How many marks could I have got without learning any new chapter?
These usually come from:
- Skipped but solvable questions
- Calculation mistakes
- Misread questions
- Questions that took too long
5. Check Time Spent on Questions
Look at:
- Questions that took too long
- Correct answers that were unusually slow
- Questions that consumed time but gave no marks
6. Analyse Subject-Wise and Chapter-Wise
Don’t just say “Physics is weak.”Find the exact chapters responsible, for example:
- Kinematics
- Electrostatics
- Chemical Kinetics
- Thermodynamics
- Coordinate Geometry
7. Turn Analysis Into Action
After every mock, write your top 3 problems and clear actions.Example:Problem: Chemical Kinetics is weak
Action: Revise concepts + solve targeted PYQs Problem: Physics answers are too slow
Action: Do timed practice from weak chapters Problem: Poor question selection
Action: Use a stricter first-pass strategy in the next mock

8. Use PYQs to Fix Weak Areas
Don’t take another full mock immediately.
Follow this cycle:
Mock → Analyse → Identify Weak Topic → Revise → Solve Targeted PYQs → Next Mock
This is much more effective than repeatedly taking mocks without fixing anything.
How Long Should Analysis Take?
A focused analysis can usually be done in 30–45 minutes.
- 5 minutes → Overall performance
- 15 minutes → Wrong, skipped and time-consuming questions
- 10 minutes → Weak chapters
- 5–10 minutes → Next action plan
A mock test is not just a test of knowledge.
It tests:
Knowledge + Accuracy + Speed + Decision-making + Time Management
Your score tells you what happened.
Your analysis tells you why it happened.
Your next plan decides whether the next score improves.
