    🔑 Why Understanding Eligibility Matters?

    Related Reading:

    • IIT preparation
    • Saves you from disqualification at the last stage.
    • Helps you plan attempts wisely if you are a dropper.
    • Ensures you balance board exams + JEE preparation.
    • Prevents mistakes regarding marks, age, or attempts.

📌 JEE Main 2026 Eligibility Criteria

JEE Main is the first stage of the exam. It is conducted twice a year (January & April sessions) by NTA.

Here are the updated eligibility details:

    1. Age Limit for JEE Main 2026

    • No upper age limit for JEE Main.
    • Candidates must have passed Class 12th (or equivalent) in 2024, 2025 or be appearing in 2026.
    • For admission into some institutes, internal age rules may apply (but exam eligibility remains unrestricted).

    2. Qualifying Exam

Candidates must have passed 10+2 / Class 12th from a recognized board such as:

    • CBSE, ICSE, NIOS, State Boards, IB, Cambridge International, or any government-recognized board.

    3. Subjects Required in Class 12th

To be eligible for JEE Main, a candidate must have studied:

    • Physics (Compulsory)
    • Mathematics (Compulsory)
    • Chemistry / Biotechnology / Biology / Technical Vocational Subject (Optional 3rd subject)

    4. Minimum Marks in Class 12th

    • For appearing in JEE Main → No minimum % required.
    • For admission into NITs, IIITs, GFTIs → Must score 75% marks (65% for SC/ST) OR be in the top 20 percentile of the respective board.

⚠️ Note: This rule is very important for droppers. Even if you clear JEE, failing in board criteria may block admission.

    5. Number of Attempts in JEE Main

    • JEE Main is held twice a year (January & April 2026).
    • Candidates can appear in both sessions, and the best score is considered.
    • Maximum 3 consecutive years of attempts are allowed after passing 12th.

    👉 Example:

    • If you pass 12th in 2024, you are eligible for JEE Main 2024, 2025, and 2026 only.

📌 JEE Advanced 2026 Eligibility Criteria

Only the top 2.5 lakh rank holders of JEE Main 2026 across all categories are eligible for JEE Advanced.

    1. Age Limit for JEE Advanced 2026

    • General & OBC Candidates → Born on or after October 1, 2001.
    • SC/ST/PwD Candidates → Relaxation of 5 years → Born on or after October 1, 1996.

    2. Qualifying Exam Year

    • Must have passed Class 12th in 2025 or 2026.
    • Students who passed before 2025 are not eligible.

    3. Number of Attempts in JEE Advanced

    • A candidate can attempt maximum 2 times in consecutive years.
👉 Example: If you attempt JEE Advanced in 2025, your last chance is 2026.

    4. Performance in Class 12th

    • Must secure at least 75% marks in Class 12th (65% for SC/ST/PwD) OR
    • Be in the top 20 percentile of your respective board.

    ❓ Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

    1. Can a student who passed Class 12th in 2023 appear for JEE 2026?

No ❌. Only students who passed in 2024, 2025, or appearing in 2026 are eligible for JEE Main 2026. For JEE Advanced, only 2025 and 2026 pass-outs are allowed.

    2. Is there any attempt limit for JEE Main?

Yes ✅. A student can attempt JEE Main 3 consecutive years after passing 12th, with two sessions each year.

    3. Do droppers need 75% in boards again?

No. If you already scored 75% (65% for SC/ST) in your first attempt year, you remain eligible in the drop year too.

    4. Can I appear in JEE Main without Chemistry?

Yes. You can choose Biology, Biotechnology, or Technical Vocational Subject as the 3rd subject.

    5. What if I qualify JEE Advanced but fail 75% rule?

You cannot take admission in IITs, NITs, or IIITs. Board exam marks are equally important.

    🎯 Expert Tips from AcadXL

    1.     Plan Your Attempts – Droppers must calculate which years they are eligible for, before deciding to repeat.

    2.     Balance Boards + JEE – Don’t ignore boards, as they directly impact IIT/NIT admission.

    3.     Don’t Waste Sessions – Use both January & April JEE Main attempts for better percentile.

    4.     Stay Updated – Rules may change; rely on authentic updates from NTA & IIT websites (or AcadXL Blogs).
